Taxidermy Video Opening Transcript- Welcome back to the taxidermy studio.let's grab Katie's bird and get back to work on it. We have allot to do but it's going to be exciting and fun. So we have our finished fleshed pheasant and now were ready to go ahead and wash it. So I fill up my sink with cold water and then I'm going to add some dawn. So take your bird and put it right into the dawn water. Agitate it a little bit, open the tail up agitate the tail, the wings, fan them open... agitate them now I'm going to take it by the head and start squeezing the water out.

Taxidermy Video Opening Transcript- Our wings are wired in and rebuilt as well as our legs. We're ready to insert the manikin Now at this point we can put a wing wire in. Here is a wing wire edge and we can go right through at the junction and watch how it comes through at the chest. Get your self some pliers and bring that through. Now at this point we want to make sure the joint of the bone goes right into the wing pocket of the manikin. So I'm going to pull that right up and tight.

Taxidermy Video Opening Transcript-In this episode we are going to get into how to mount a mallard duck, a waterfowl and preserve the beauty of nature but first we are in the shop with Don Rich of Natures Touch Taxidermy and Don is taking us out to his friends place and we are going to do some hunting this morning and hopefully we will pick up a nice mallard It's about 3:00 and we are getting ready to go. It's a nice cool day in Wisconsin and were looking forward to a good hunt...Hunting scene.. Lets go back to the taxidermy studio and preserve this beautiful mallard. This isn't going to be your standard standing mallard because we are going to put movement to it. Now the supplies on a mallard start off with a artificial head and a artificial beak and we use a recreation beak so that there isn't any shrinkage..

Taxidermy Video Opening Transcript-So now all the skin is rolled back over the head and down the neck. Now we can sever the neck from the head at the very first vertebra to the skull and then our carcass will come free. So I just put my fingers right at the base of that skull and feel where that first vertebra is and I'm going to separate the neck from the spine. Right there. Now as soon as I do that I can take the carcass and I can roll it out and the neck comes free, there is a little bit of membrane still holding it on so I'll work the neck down and the carcass is now free from the skin. So our bird is fully skinned out...wings, legs and right on through to the head. Now we can begin cleaning the legs and the wing bones as well as fleshing the over all hide.

So were going to take 14 gauge wire and run it right through the neck area that is sculpted into the manikin. I've made a little hole there (in the manikin) right between the shoulder blades and you can see the area where the actual neck foam material is sculpted to fit right in there. It is kind of rounded. Right in the middle of that rounded area is where we want to take our sharpened edge and just cut it with your snips (cutting the neck wire on the screen) and were going to poke it right through the hole straight down the manikin and come out the anal vent area.
